SMS Opt-In & Compliance Verification

This page demonstrates how OwnYourChair collects explicit SMS consent from end users. Consent is collected directly from the consumer through two methods — both publicly accessible web forms.
Method 1: Online Booking Form
When a client books an appointment through a barber's public booking page on OwnYourChair (e.g., ownyourchair.com/book/nickross), the booking form includes an explicit SMS consent checkbox at Step 3.
How it works:
- Client selects a service and time slot
- On Step 3 (“Your information”), they enter their name and phone number
- An unchecked SMS consent checkbox appears below the form fields
- The client must actively check the box to opt in — it is never pre-checked
- Checking the box is NOT required to complete the booking
- Consent is not a condition of purchasing any goods or services
The checkbox reads:
“I agree to receive appointment-related text messages from [Business Name] via OwnYourChair. Message frequency varies, up to 16 msgs/mo. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help. Reply STOP to opt out.”
The form includes links to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
To verify: visit ownyourchair.com/book/nickross → select any service → pick a date/time → this form appears on Step 3.
Method 2: Standalone Consent Form
Barbers can share a direct consent link with existing clients who didn't book through OwnYourChair. The link format is: ownyourchair.com/book/[username]/consent
How it works:
- Barber shares the consent link via text message, in-person QR code, or social media
- Client visits the page — it's branded with the barber's name and business
- Client enters their first name and phone number
- An unchecked SMS consent checkbox appears below the form fields
- The client must actively check the box to opt in — it is never pre-checked
- Consent is not a condition of purchasing any goods or services
The checkbox reads:
“I agree to receive appointment-related text messages from [Business Name] via OwnYourChair. Message frequency varies, up to 16 msgs/mo. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help. Reply STOP to opt out. Consent is not a condition of purchasing any goods or services.”

Key Compliance Details
The following applies to both opt-in methods:
- Consent checkboxes are UNCHECKED by default — consent is always affirmative
- Consent is NEVER required to complete a booking or any other action
- Consent is NOT a condition of purchasing any goods or services
- Both forms are publicly accessible — no login required
- Both forms are mobile-responsive (most clients access via phone)
Consent Data We Store
When a client checks the SMS consent box, we store:
- Client phone number
- Consent timestamp (exact date and time)
- Consent IP address
- Consent boolean flag (true/false)
- Consent source (booking_form or consent_page)
- Associated barber account ID
These records are retained for compliance verification.
